5 Beauty Products You Should Swap Before Your Wedding Day

Posted by Autoketing Collaborator on

Your wedding day make up is only as good as the skin underneath, so to ensure you're glowing on your big day, take note of these five tweaks to make in the lead up to your wedding.

Swap lip balm for lanolin

Soft, kissable lips are a must for brides-to-be and are often an overlooked step in the big day beauty regime. Swapping your go-to balm for a lanolin-based product is the difference between a silky pout and a sensational one. A soft, yellow, waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep to protect their wool, lanolin mimics human skin lipids, making it the most skin-compatible ingredient around. It is semi-occlusive and semi-permeable – meaning it allows skin to self-hydrate from within and holds up to 400% its weight in moisture.

Swap exfoliator for AHAs

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) have gained some serious column inches over the last year and it's little wonder they've replaced our grainy exfoliators. Made up of a group of natural and synthetic acids such as lactic, glycolic and citrus, they break down and digest dead skin cells to leave glowing skin which, over time, possesses a more toned appearance. “Manual exfoliators can cause irritation and even break capillaries if used aggressively,” says skincare expert Renee Lapino. “Leading up to a big event, it is better to be safe than sorry and switch to a chemical exfoliant. This could be a serum, a mask or a tonic containing AHAs, giving you a healthy sheen with minimal risk.”

Swap face masks for facial massage

While a glow-inducing face mask has long been a bridal beauty go-to, face massage has been coming up the ranks since Meghan Markle's facialist attributed the Duchess's flawless skin to regular appointments. “Just a five minute face massage can stimulate blood flow, soften facial contours and support lymphatic drainage to de-puff the face and get rid of toxins,” explains International facialist and wellbeing expert Abigail James.

Swap night creams for retinol

Hailed as a hero ingredient in the quest for a smooth, flawless complexion, retinol is a hot topic in skincare right now. “Retinol is the only ingredient clinically proven to heal the nucleus of the cell, therefore eradicating unwanted pigment, enlarged pores, and fine lines and wrinkles,” Renee explains. “Night creams are great for recovery and hydration, but when all eyes are going to be on you, you want a poreless visage and retinol is the way to get it."

Swap hyaluronic acid for azelaic acid

Hyaluronic acid may have been the beauty buzzword last year but the forerunner promises to filter out the flaws and leave your skin photo ready. “By reading and detecting the irritants that cause dull skin tone, redness and blemishes, azelaic acid inhibits unwanted elements on and within the epidermis of the skin, preventing a myriad of skin issues before they become evident,” Renee tells us. Think of it as wedding insurance for your skin.
